Details
Building performance contractors that follow the whole house approach to making your home green and more energy efficient are the general contractors of the home performance industry. Rather than looking at individual components of your house — such as windows, insulation, furnaces and air conditioners — energy retrofit contractors will evaluate your house as a system and take the most cost-effective steps to improve its overall energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and reduce your carbon footprint.
Energy retrofitters will usually start with a comprehensive home energy audit to identify air leaks, areas where there isn't enough insulation, and other opportunities for savings and increased home comfort. They'll work with you to come up with a project plan for fixing your home's biggest efficiency problems in the most cost effective ways.
These contractors can also act as residential energy efficiency consultants, giving you advice on working with other contractors for energy efficiency and remodeling work.
