The AEP Ohio gridSMART® In-home Energy Assessment and In-home Energy Audit Programs offer rebates for the installation of energy-saving measures recommended by a program-approved auditor. Customers can request an audit or assessment from the first number listed, below, and have six months from the date of the audit/assessment to submit all rebate applications. Through this program, rebates are available on lighting measures, insulation, furnaces, central ac systems, heat pumps, duct sealing, and window film. Rebates will be paid to all eligible and qualifying applications until the budget is exhausted. An assessment is not required for a refrigerator/freezer recycling rebate or CFL in-store discounts.

The Energy Assessment costs $25 and installs over $100 worth of energy saving equipment into residences by a qualified auditor. The auditor conducts and inspection and installs up to 12 compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), two low-flow faucet aerators, one low-flow shower head, one LED night light, 5’ of pipe wrap, and a programmable thermostat (heat pumps not eligible). The auditor will also provide recommended energy improvements to be implemented within six months.

The In-home Energy Audit is a comprehensive diagnostic performed by a program-approved auditor following Building Performance Institute (BPI) standards including a blower door test to find air infiltration and a combustion efficiency test to gauge appliances and equipment efficiency. Customers receive all of the same services from the Energy Assessment, as well as a detailed report with a prioritized list of repairs and improvements with costs, approximate return on investment, and assistance in choosing a contractor. Audit cost is typically $200-$350; AEP Ohio will reimburse $100 for an all-electric home or $75 for homes with central air conditioning and non-electric heat.

Customers that had an audit and have at least $1000 worth of measures installed are eligible for a performance rebate of $200 for an all-electric home and $150 for a non-electric heat home. Customers that had an assessment and have at least $1000 worth of measures installed will also have their $25 assessment fee rebated.
