The Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department (WMGLD), in cooperation with the Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company (MMWEC), offers the "Incentive Rebate Program" to encourage residential customers to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. Customers interested in this program must have an energy audit conducted. Afterwards, if the customer decides to pursue any of the measures recommended in by the audit, WMGLD will pay for 25% of the costs of installation and equipment, up to $300. Eligible upgrades include various forms of insulation, ventilation, weather stripping, window and door replacement, and lighting upgrades. This incentive is available to the customer once every 12 months.

WMGLD also provides a separate program through which customers can receive rebates for the purchase and installation of energy efficient Energy Star rated appliances. Appliances include programmable thermostats, clothes washers, dishwashers, room and central AC units, dehumidifiers, and water heaters. All appliances must be Energy Star labeled , with the exception of water heaters. Customers are eligible for only one rebate every 12 months. Application forms can be downloaded from the program web site listed above.
