Xcel provides new ENERGY STAR Home owners with cash rebates to residential builders and customers who receive electric and service from the utility. Homes purchasing natural gas from Xcel Energy can also receive free HERS Rating, Energy Star and Tax Credit Verification, and Onsite Consulting through this program. To participate, the homeowner must first have a qualifying energy audit performed on their home through Xcel Energy. The audit includes a blower door test to establish natural air changes in the home and determine eligibly for the air sealing rebate.
The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program pays incentives for existing homes receiving gas and electric service from Xcel to take a whole-house approach to energy savings. Qualifying customers must complete three required improvements (airsealing/insultion/CFLs) and select at least two optional improvements. Customers must complete all improvements before they are eligible to receive rebates. After a Home Energy Audit, participating contractors install the customer's recommended improvements to be inspected by "Lightly Treading," which will collect receipts and submit rebate paperwork. Customers are not eligible to receive rebates from Home Performance with ENERGY STAR as well as other Xcel Energy programs for the same improvement.
