Georgia Power offers two different rebate options for those looking to upgrade to a high efficiency central air conditioning. Homeowners can either pursue Whole-House or Individual improvements, depending on what they are looking to do and how much they are hoping to save.
The Georgia Power Whole-House rebate program is the most effective and comprehensive way for homeowners to improve the efficiency and the comfort of their homes. This approach begins with an in-home assessment in which a Building Performance Institute (BPI) Certified contractor uses state-of-the-art equipment to inventory your equipment, find air leaks and inefficiencies, and create personalized recommendations for improving your energy use.
The Whole-House rebate program offers up to $2,200 for making the recommended improvements with participating contractors. The rebates are at 50 percent of the cost of the upgrades as follows:
- Building Performance Institute Assessment: 50% up to $200
- 20% Home Energy Reduction: 50% up to $1,250
- 25% Home Energy Reduction: 50% up to $1,450
- 30% Home Energy Reduction: 50% up to $1,850
- Programmable Thermostat: 50% up to $100
- Electric Water Heater Tank Wrap: 50% up to $50
Alternately, homeowners can earn up to $700 in rebates for making individual improvements to their homes. Replacing a central air conditioner with one rated at least 16 SEER is one of the qualifying measures. A participating program contractor or industry-specific, state licensed contractor must do the work. Eligible systems will receive a $50 rebate. Homeowners can combine this with other measures, up to a total of $700. Visit the Georgia Power Earth Cents Home Energy Improvement Program to learn about the specific measures.
