Ameren offers its ActOnEnergy efficiency rebate program to encourage energy efficiency for its Illinois customers. Electric customers are eligible for certain energy efficiency improvement rebates and gas customers may earn incentives for becoming more energy efficient. The ActOnEnergy program covers discounts on lighting, rebates on energy efficient products, old appliance recycling and total home energy performance incentives.
Ameren offers its customers point-of-sale discounts on compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) purchased online, over the phone or at participating retailers. Visit ActOnEnergy's Energy Efficient Lighting guide to learn more and find a store near you.
In addition, the ActOnEnergy program encourages refrigerator and freezer recycling by offering a $50 rebate and free pickup and disposal on a qualifying freezer or refrigerator. Equipment must be 10-27 cubic feet in size, be in use as a secondary unit not requiring the purchase of new equipment and be operable at the time of pickup.
Upgrading to ENERGY STAR appliances qualifies for additional rebates as follow:
- In-Room Air Conditioners: $35 rebate, up to three rebates per customer
- Air Purifiers: $20 rebate, up to three rebates per customer
- Heat Pump Water Heaters: $300 rebate, one rebate per customer
- Programmable Thermostat: $25 rebate, one rebate per customer
- Smart Power Strip: $10 rebate, up to six rebates per customer
- High Efficiency Gas Water Heater (EF >.67): $50 rebate, one rebate per customer
- SuperHigh Efficiency Gas Water Heater (EF >.70): $75 rebate, one rebate per customer
Ameren offers rebates between $110-$600 on high-efficiency furnaces and central air units, depending on the new equipment's efficiency rating and the inefficiency of the unit being replaced. In order to qualify, customers must use Ameren-approved contractors, known as "Program Allies" to evaluate and install the systems. The natural gas warm-air furnace incentives are based on the Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating system (Department of Energy). A furnace with AFUE Rating 92 percent or greater is eligible for $125 incentive and one with an AFUE Rating of 95 percent or greater is eligible for $200. A natural gas boiler with an AFUE rating of 90 percent or greater are eligible fore a $500 rebate. Cooling equipment incentives are based on the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and range from $110 to $600. Visit ActOnEnergy's Heating and Air Conditioning Equipment guide for more information.
Finally, Ameren’s Home Energy Performance (HEP) program offers incentives through registered Program Allies who are BPI Certified insulation and air sealing specialists. They examine your home and explain exactly which measures will make your home as energy efficient as possible. The potential discounts are as follows:
- Air / Duct Sealing: Up to $1,200. Prevent heating and cooling dollars from escaping through unseen cracks and gaps in your home.
- Attic Insulation: Up to $1,400. Inadequate insulation is a leading cause of energy waste in most homes.
- Wall Insulation: Up to $2,400. Insulation decreases the heating or cooling needed by providing an effective resistance to the flow of heat.
