We live in Calvert County, MD (Lusby, MD) and are considering replacing our existing propane water heater with a tankless model.
Are there rebates or incentives to go tankless? Government rebates? Gas or electric company rebates? Manufacturer rebates/incentives?

Excellent questions! Thank you for the inquiry. The short answer is yes, there are incentives for upgrading to a tankless water heater. In order to qualify for the incentives, make sure that the unit being selected is listed on the ENERGY STAR website as an eligible model for the tax credit.

As for the utilities, it depends on your provider. Maryland has several utility providers, and each one handles incentives differently. So in that instance, I would check with whomever supplies your gas and electric.

Manufacture rebates are also available. To find out which manufactures are currently offering rebates I would check with your local plumbing supply house or plumber. The best course of action would be to start with the plumbing supply house, and tell them what you are trying to accomplish with this new heater. For example, let them know the number of people in the home, the average usage and that you're looking for an ENERGY STAR rated tankless water heater. If you meet the requirements for the tax credit, then you will most likely meet the requirements of your local utility's program. Good luck!
