Tankless gas water heaters do qualify for the federal residential tax credit as long as they have an Energy Factor of 0.82 or better. Additionally, both equipment and labor costs are eligible for the credit, which is equal to 30 percent of the cost up to $1,500. However, if you install the system yourself, you will not receive credit for your labor costs.
Am I still eligible for the US Government: Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit if I purchase a tankless gas water heater and install it myself? If I had a contractor do it, would the installation fee also be eligible for the 30 tax credit?
