EnergySavvy is unaware of any local tankless hot water heater rebates, but the federal government offers a tax credit equal to 30 percent of the cost of certain hot water heaters for up to $1,500 including installation costs. In order to qualify for this federal energy efficiency income tax credit, your mother’s new hot water heater must have an Energy Factor of 0.82 or greater.
If your mother is interested in a solar hot water heater to supplement her new instant hot water heater, there are a few different local rebates to choose from. Beaches Energy Services and Clay Electric Cooperative both offer rebates on solar hot water heaters. The JEA Solar Incentive Program offers a rebate for $800 for Jacksonville residents if a local contractor installs the solar hot water heater. Finally, the federal government offers a tax credit equal to 30 percent of the system’s cost with no upper limit.
