Are there rebates for installing insulation in my attic myself in Western Massachusetts?

Homeowner in Northampton, MA (Posted on Feb. 8, 2011)

There are a couple energy efficiency incentive programs for DIY attic insulation upgrades in Massachusetts. If you're a customer of Berkshire Gas, you may be eligible for a rebate that would cover 75 percent of the cost of the insulation with a maximum rebate limit at $2,000.

Additionally, you may be eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $500 if you haven't already claimed at least $500 of the federal energy efficiency tax credit in previous tax years. This credit is equal to a maximum of 10 percent of the cost of your insulation. To receive the credit, you'll need to owe money on your 2011 tax returns.
