There is federal tax credit available for adding insulation, but it is over at the end of this year - Dec. 31, 2010. Qualifying products can get the homeowner a 30 percent tax credit up to a total of $1,500. You would need to move quickly to qualify before the end of the year. Only the cost of the materials is eligible, not the cost of labor, so factor that into any potential tax benefits.
