I have a solar heating system for the pool and would like to change out the circulating pump to a variable pump to save energy. Is a rebate available for this purpose?

Yes! Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) offers $100 rebates to customers who replace their swimming pool filtration pumps and motors with multi-speed pumps and motors through the >Residential Energy Efficiency Rebate Program. On top of the rebate, a multi-speed pump and motor can save you up nearly $500 on your energy bills annually.

PG&E also offers rebates on lighting, heating and cooling, remodeling and insulating, and appliance recycling. If you're interested in taking advantage of any of these rebates, such as adding insulation to your home, you may be able to “stack” them with other rebates and tax credits in order to cover a big chunk of the cost. For example the federal government will cover 30 percent of the cost of insulation upgrades for up to $1,500 for the 2010 tax year.
