Yes! Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECO) does indeed have a refrigerator rebate for ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators. The $50 rebate originally expired in December 2009, but it has been extended to continue until Jan. 31, 2010. To apply, download this rebate form.
Also, there are refrigerators available that exceed ENERGY STAR ratings, but they are still given the normal ENERGY STAR seal of approval. In order for a refrigerator to qualify for the ENERGY STAR rating, it must be 20 percent more efficient than the federal standard. To see a list of refrigerators that meet and exceed the ENERGY STAR standard, visit this web page.
One other thing to keep in mind. Massachusetts is launching an appliance rebate program in March 2010, as part of the nationwide Energy Star appliance rebate program. Details aren't yet available, but check back with EnergySavvy in February for more information.
