In order to have a comfortable and affordable summer, figure out what steps you need to take to make your AC more efficient and your home less leaky. You may want to have your home analyzed for its efficiency. Our online energy analysis will give you a general idea of improvements you can make or you can have a professional auditor do an in-home analysis.

If you decide to upgrade an existing central AC system, purchase a system with a SEER 16 rating or higher to maximize cooling efficiency and to qualify for the energy efficiency income tax credit from the federal government. This credit covers 30 percent up to $1,500 of the cost of the equipment and installations of new central AC. High efficiency heat pumps also qualify for this credit.

Other efficiency improvements you might want to make include air sealing your home and ductwork as well as adding insulation to your attic. Your home may also benefit from shade screens or window treatments.
