Also, the federal government offers the energy efficiency tax credit to homeowners who install high efficiency heating systems. The credit is equal to 30 percent of the equipment and installation costs for up to $1,500. To qualify, your furnace will need AFUE of 95 or higher. Boilers need an AFUE of 90 or higher to qualify. The tax credit has the highest standards of all of the rebates in your area; however, if you meet these standards, you’ll likely qualify for any other rebates available to you.
