Are there interest-free financing programs for HVAC upgrades or replacements through Florida Power and Light or the federal government. I'm looking for something with extended payments without interest or fees.

The only loans available in your area at this time are the Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEM) offered through the federal government. There are three types of energy efficient mortgages to choose from, and each offers a loan equal to a certain percent of the value of your home.

The three EEM types are the Federal Housing Authority EEM, the Department of Veterans Affairs EEM and Conventional EEMs offered through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The loan amounts, interest rates and payment terms will vary depending on the value of the property and the type of EEM.

There are a couple of other incentives that may help make your project more affordable. The Residential Energy Efficiency Program offered through Florida Power and Light provides rebates up to $1,930 for HVAC equipment and repairs, including duct testing. It also helps cover the cost of insulation, which is important because a well insulated house means your HVAC system won’t have to work as hard.

Additionally, the federal government offers a Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit equal to 30 percent of the cost of your new HVAC system, including installation costs.
