Are there rebates for heat pumps in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri? What are the minimum SEER and EER ratings?

There are a few different rebate programs in Missouri for making energy efficiency improvements to you home, including upgrading heat pumps. The requirements vary based on the system type of the heat pump.

The State of Missouri Personal Income Tax Deduction for Home Energy Audits allows homeowners who hire an auditor certified by the Department of Natural Resources to deduct 100 percent of the costs incurred for the audit and the implementation of any energy efficiency recommendations made by the auditor from your state income taxes. The maximum yearly subtraction may not exceed $1,000, for a single taxpayer or $2,000 for a married couple filing a combined return.

Many members of the Associated Electric Cooperative offer customers rebates on energy efficient home improvements. The rebates vary, so visit the Missouri Cooperative Utilities Website to learn more and find you electric provider.

The Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit provides a tax credit of 10 percent, up to $500, of energy efficiency upgrades such as heat pumps, furnaces, air conditioners, insulation, water heaters, windows, doors and roofs. Starting in 2011, $500 is the lifetime limit for this tax credit. This means that if you received any Federal Energy Efficiency Tax Credits between 2006 and 2010, those count towards this $500 lifetime limit. Thus, if you've received $500 or more in these credits previously, you would be ineligible for further tax credits under this program. The credit also only applies to your primary residence, and it must be an existing home. Act fast, because the tax credit expires at the end of 2011.
