If you replace the exterior doors of your home, you may qualify for the 2011 energy efficiency federal tax credit equal to 10 percent of the cost, excluding installation and labor costs, up to $500. The improvements must be made on your principal residence and doors must have a U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30 or less.
If you're planning on replacing your doors to make your home more energy efficient, you might also benefit from other energy efficiency improvements, such upgrading your insulation and heating system. Two utility companies in Faulkner County, AR, currently offer rebate programs that you may be able to take advantage of.
Energy Arkansas will provide you with a free walk-through energy assessment of your home. Energy efficiency measures, such as upgrading your heating system, sealing air leaks, improving duct efficiency and ceiling insulation, made within 45 days of this assessment qualify for an energy efficiency incentive of $329/kilowatt of peak demand reductions. To see what an energy assessment might find in your home you can use this free online energy assessment tool.
Also, CenterPoint Energy offers energy efficiency rebates for high-efficiency water heaters and heating systems. The rebates for heating systems are up to $300, and the efficiency qualifications vary depending on the system.
