Xcel Energy's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Rebate Program is a little bit more involved than just receiving rebates. The first step to receiving rebates through this program is to have an in-home energy audit.

To set up an energy audit, call (800) 895-4999. This will not only give you a comprehensive understanding on how your home is performing in terms of its energy efficiency, but it will give you a list of recommended upgrades to choose from. From that list, which includes dishwasher upgrades, the homeowner will choose two rebate-eligible measures to implement in his or her home.

Additionally, the homeowner will be required to upgrade air sealing/weather stripping, attic insulation and high efficiency lighting. These upgrades are eligible for a $290 rebate. Insulation and air sealing also qualify for the federal Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit, which will cover up to $1,500 or 30 percent of the cost.
