Assuming you are replacing your current oil fueled boiler with another, more energy-efficient boiler, there are three programs you should consider. First, you may qualify for NYSERDA’s ENERGY STAR Financing Program, which offers up to $20,000 in loans to homeowners who make energy-efficiency improvements on their homes, which includes upgrading older, inefficient boilers.
Second, if you are eligible for low-income status, you may qualify for a grant equal to 50 percent of the cost of a new boiler through NYSERDA’s Assisted Home Performance Grants program. Neither program has a set expiration date, so they will likely run throughout 2010 and possibly longer.
Finally, you'll want to make sure that you take advantage of the government energy efficiency tax credit. You'll need to upgrade to a new boiler with at least an AFUE of 90 (that's an efficiency rating) to qualify for the tax credit.
