If you are a PSE&G customer, you should start with the Whole House Efficiency Program. This program will set you up with a free home energy audit, which will tell you exactly what areas of your home could be more energy efficient. Your auditor will also be able to help you find rebates for the improvements you would like to make.
Some of the most common improvements for older homes include air sealing and adding insulation to attics or walls. Other measures that will save you energy include replacing outdated appliances such as furnaces, dishwashers, water heaters or anything that is using an unnecessary amount of energy. There are a lot of programs that offer rebates for these measures in New Jersey that you should check out. Here's a good checklist for you:
- Home Performance with ENERGY STAR
- COOL Advantage
- WARMAdvantage
- ENERGY STAR Product Rebates
- U.S. Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit
Good luck with your renovation!
