I have already selected a window replacement contractor, and signed their agreement. How do I apply for a tax credit?

If your windows have a U-factor and an SHGC rating less than or equal to 0.30, you qualify for a credit equal to 30 percent of the window costs up to $1,500.

If you paid for and installed your windows in 2009, you will need to claim your credit on your 2009 federal income tax return. Otherwise, you will need to wait until you file your 2010 tax return. Along with your return, you will need to submit Form 5695 to apply for the Federal Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit.

There are a couple of other incentives that your new windows may be eligible for including Forest Grove Light and Power’s Energy Efficiency Rebate Program and Oregon’s State Home Oil Weatherization Program.
