I am having new windows installed in my home. Are there any rebates from the Colorado state or Arapahoe County for this?

The only incentive for windows in your area that we’re aware of at this time is the federal Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit, which is designed to cover 30 percent of the cost of energy efficiency measures like windows for up to $1,500. In order to qualify, the windows must be installed on your primary home, and they must have a U-Factor and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient of 0.30 or lower.

Installing Energy Efficient Windows

One reason there aren’t a lot rebates for windows in your area may be because replacing windows isn’t always the most cost-effective energy efficiency upgrade you can make. A lot of times, it can save you a few hundred dollars per year on your utility bills, but compared to more affordable measures like insulation and air sealing, which have just as much, if not more of an impact on your utility bills, it’s not always the most cost-effective measure you can take.

The best way to know if windows will be the best energy efficiency upgrade in your home is to have your home audited by a professional auditor in your area. The auditor will test your home’s exterior shell, appliances and heating and cooling equipment, and he or she will give you a comprehensive report with some suggested upgrades with an idea of how much money you can save.
