If you’d like to get a $99 in-home energy audit, you’ll need to connect with a BPI certified auditor who works with the APS audit program. The auditor will set up a time with you to audit your home.

The audits are relatively comprehensive. They include a blower door test, which depressurizes your home by blowing air out your front door. Depressurizing the inside of your house will cause air from outside to seep in through the leaky areas around your windows and doors, which your contractor will make visible with colored smoke. Identifying these areas is the first step to creating a well sealed home that is comfortable and efficient.

The audit also includes an inspection of your air conditioning system, ductwork, insulation and building envelope (your home’s exterior). After the inspections, your auditor will create a comprehensive report to give you an idea of what measures will be most cost effective and will make your home more energy efficient, affordable and comfortable.

Normally, energy audits in the Phoenix area cost around $400, depending on the tests you have performed in your home. If you’re an SRP customer, you’ll soon be able to take advantage of an energy audit program that is similar to the APS program.
