Depending on your utility provider, there are a few energy-efficient window incentive programs you can take advantage of in Framingham, MA.
The MassSAVE HEAT Loan program continues through 2010 and offers loans up to $15,000 with no-interest (0 percent) for seven years to residential customers of the MassSAVE member utility companies for home energy improvements, including ENERGY STAR window replacements with a U-factor of .35 or less.
The Wakefield Municipal Gas and Light Department (WMGLD) offers the Energy New England program for its residential customers. WMGLD will reimburse 25 percent of the cost and installation of window replacements up to $300. However, to be reimbursed, the homeowner must have an energy audit before any work begins, and the window replacement must be a recommended improvement. To see what an energy audit might find in your home you can take a free online energy audit survey.
Lastly, through the rest of 2010, you can take advantage of the federal energy efficiency income tax credit for ENERGY STAR windows with a U-factor and SHGC of 0.30 or lower. The tax credit is equal to 30 percent up to $1,500 of the cost of the windows (not including the installation costs). To be eligible for the tax credit, the windows must be installed on your primary residence. This tax credit does not apply to new construction.
