We had an energy efficient roof installed in 2009 and an efficient air conditioner installed recently. Can we claim the efficiency tax credit for this work?

To be sure, you should check with a CPA or other tax advisor; however, my understanding is that energy efficiency credits must be claimed for the tax year that they were installed. If you've already filed your 2009 taxes, you are no longer eligible for the credit for your roof.

As for the AC that was installed this year (?), you may be eligible for the a credit of 30 percent of the equipment and labor costs for up to $1,500. To qualify, your AC must be a central air conditioner package system with a SEER 14 or a central air conditioner split system with a SEER 16.
