Customers of North Shore natural gas can expect a $200 rebate for any qualifying gas furnace with an efficiency rating of 92 percent or higher. Another rebates offers $200 rebate for 95 percent efficient furnaces from Ameren Illinois.

Finally, the federal government offers a tax credit through 2010 for high efficiency heating systems. The credit is equal to 30 percent up to $1,500 of the cost of the heating equipment and installation costs. This credit will also cover material costs for duct sealing and insulating.
